Even being a dutchman myself. I am not a big fan of Amsterdam as I don’t live there. (Breda for ever! ;) )But it is a great place where most of the people are really laid back and everything.

So. the vids…. What’s wroing with wanting to teach kids to have safe sex? I mean… they/we are gonna have sex anyway. I’d prefer to do it safe if I have a choice, and good education helps with that decision. This is also true of drugs. It is not illegal here. (Mind you it is not exactly legal either, we just allow it in certain places.) But because it is not illegal it is less of a taboo to talk about it, and this again leads to better education about what it does and the effect it has on you and so on.

And ffs… when will the US realize that their way might not always be the be all end all of ways and that their system must always be the best one! This is just inane crap as these numbers clearly show, yet it wont get through to their think heads!

    Great vid though :)

Fox News spare us your stupidity! Read the facts and study your story before airing an irresponsible show.

Come to Amsterdam and live the Dutch life– we are on top 5 list for the most happy people in the world!

I should have waited a second longer before scrolling down, because the sources are mentioned at the very end of the video. Great work!

    Hi,

I live in Amsterdam too, and find it great that you created this website. Can you give the source of the figures you mentioned?

I love that you are making noise! Fox news and anyone who works there will be hard to convince of anything other than what they already think. Thank you for debunking a widespread falsity about a great city.

And please, don’t generalize all Americans as conservative, uneducated gunslingers. I am a Masters student in English and plan on teaching my son to be tolerant and responsible. I would love to teach abroad someday, and hope you would be happy to have us. =)

    Dear American Friends
Europe (”Ur-Rep”) is great, you can find us here in the Netherlands across the pond, we’re sandwiched somewhere between Russia (remember, the enemy) and Ireland (which you all seem so goddamn keen to be from)

O’Reilly doesn’t care about the facts. His message is to convince his listeners that ‘the leftist’ are bad and we must stop them. His listeners in turn don’t care about the facts, if FOX says its so then they believe it. It’s been a frustrating 8 years in the US and unfortunately the right-wing noise machine is getting louder. It is nice to see Europe making some noise back when these falsehoods are spewed out by O’Reilly and his friends. Thanks.

Please American people, do not visit Amsterdam. Stay in you 3rd world country as long as posible. Don’t even teach your children where the Netherlands is (most of them don’t even know anyway). Stay there, we do not need the militant dark-aged capitalistic desease from the US here in the NL. Stay where you are. Amsterdam is just another city. GO Visit NEW YORK.

Thank you very much for creating this website! I’m currently studying in England and I deal with many people who have an incorrect image of Amsterdam and the Netherlands – not to mention the amount of people who think that Amsterdam practically IS the Netherlands!

I am really amazed to see this reaction by Fox to your video.

I noticed the following in the Fox response to your video:

Bill O’Reilly categorizes anyone opposing his views (which automatically includes yours) as “the left”.

O’Reilly calls your video (that mentions statistics that prove his views wrong) “cute propaganda”

O’Reilly mentions his two co-hosts and himself have actually been to Amsterdam.

Margaret Hoover refers to you as “they”, as if you represent an (evil) organization.

In the first program Hoover argues how the “wonderfully naive ideas about teaching their children to have save sex and smoke grass” made “all the criminals and drug addicts throughout Europe (go) and exploited that opening in Amsterdam”. Now she accuses you of “conveniently” cutting out her statement that “all the international organized crime” came to Amsterdam because of lenient drug laws. But in your footage shown on Fox, you mentioning the fact that the US suffers 15 times more drug related deaths then The Netherlands is cut out. Hoover now reasons that The Netherlands have less of a drug use problem then a drug related crime problem. So she now in fact retracts her statement about how “all the drug addicts” have come to Amsterdam. This is because she can not explain away how the US would otherwise have 15 times more drug deaths then The Netherlands.

Trying to explain away the much higher homicide rate in the US -which shows that The Netherlands have a smaller crime problem (drug related or otherwise) then the US- Bill O’Reilley says: “the way they do their stats is way different then we do them over here”.

Gretchen Carlson shows how she thoroughly studied the situation in Amsterdam with this statement: “I did go and look at the travel guides for other European cities and (their crime problems) are similar to what the travel guides say about Amsterdam”.

Then Bill O’Reilley explains away the fact that 40% of US citizens have tried Marihuana, against 22% of the Dutch with “statistics in The Netherlands is different plus it is a much smaller country, a much smaller base to do the stats”.

And then the grand finale: “I don’t even care what happens in The Netherlands”.

It is amazing to see the defensive attitude of this multi-million dollar network towards just one (then) anonymous Youtuber. Because of the Fox reaction, this “conflict” has become mainstream news in The Netherlands and gets attention with bloggers in the US.

It seems O’Reilley DOES care what happens in The Netherlands. It seems he takes your video very personal. Why?

Would that be because Snoopy Dogg was allowed to openly insult him on Dutch TV with “Fuck Bill O’Reilly”, “He’s a motherfucking prick” and more?

Or is it because -indeed- your video was so cute and innocent? O’Reilley will usually scream and yell at his guests until they are bullied into submission or start screaming back and lose face that way. Maybe he is frustrated that your friendly response made him lose face this time?

Keep it up! I look forward to your next video and I hope your efforts help to set the record strait and make people like O’Reilley stop foul mouthing Amsterdam and The Netherlands in general.

Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherlands. Mr. O’ Reilly should remember that to this day our country is one of the few that have stood by the US by sending troops to Afghanistan.
Mr. O’ Reilly, show your respect to our soldiers that are there in defence of freedom. Simply by being a good journalist, not letting your convictions take the better of you.
Be true to your own trade and check your facts before you form your opinion. Indeed, leave the comforts of your TV studio and go see for your self. Be brave and enter our counrty’s war-zone with canals. And hear both sides of each story you may have heard about Amsterdam.
