I saw that there was no space to discuss hotels and hostels in Amsterdam. Now I just got back from my trip to Amsterdam, but figured that this might be usefull: Which places are good for staying in Amsterdam when you are on a budget and which places are good if you have more money to spend?

I stayed at the Stay Okay in the East part of the city and I had a blast.

Google the Barangay hotel. It's a little place, located in Droogbak about 5 mins walk from central station. Very cosy, lovely hosts. Gay & straight people welcome. Ideal !. I've stayed their twice and will be going back in spring 2010
