I remember having a safety test at school, which everybody had to pass. It included biking along a track they lay’d out through our village on the open road, with people at different points judging our decisions. Im not sure wether all people in Holland have had this test, all I know is that all the schools in our village had this test, which in the end was supervised by the police judging our bike for safety (checking lights etc.) I think I was around 8/9 years old at that time.

@Lennart : There was a “landelijke fietsdag”. The first one was in 1973. The last one in 2005.
I also don’t know what licence he means. Maybe he confuses the engineless bicycle with the motorized bike. For the last one you do need a licence.

This is great, it just makes me really, i dunno, kinda proud i guess that i’m Dutch. (Not in the “we’re better than Americans” kind of way, but just; wow, it’s kinda cool thing, this love we have for our bicycles).

great video, i live in Holland and i do recodnize myselve in it. i used to ride 30 kilometers a day to school on a bike, i’ve done that for about 5 years 2 hours a day 300 days a year. do the math and it sais thath i’ve been riding the bike for a total of 125 days now. that is cheap on gas ;p
